I officially became a resident of Portugal today. And I don’t think I fully realized how much weight I was carrying until the moment it lifted.

This journey started with a planning trip last August. Then came visa appointments for me and my four little people (well, 2 big, 1 medium, and 1 small) in January. A flight across the ocean in March. A road trip across a country that I had never driven in, and months of navigating Portuguese bureaucracy with patience, faith in all good things, and more deep breaths than I can count.
Then there was the first residency appointment we had to reschedule because of one missing document. The second appointment in November, where I quietly put all the good energy into the air, because you hear and read the stories. People get denied all the time.
And for me…

No immigration lawyers. No translators. No family or friends on the ground.
Just me and my crew, figuring it out as we went.

I lived in this strange in-between for months (honestly not even realizing it).I didn’t change my location anywhere.Didn’t update my business currency.Didn’t touch my mailing address.
Not because it didn’t make sense, but because I was afraid to jinx the outcome.Like if I stayed still long enough, quiet enough, grateful enough, the universe would let us stay.
And today, it did.
There’s a specific kind of relief that comes from finally being able to exhale. From knowing you’re no longer waiting for permission to belong where you already are. From realizing that you can stop bracing for impact and start integrating - fully, honestly, without fear.

This year has been one of the hardest I’ve faced in the last decade.Challenging in ways that don’t always show up on the outside. The kind of challenges that force you to stretch emotionally, spiritually, and mentally, sometimes all at once.
But ending it like this? With relief. With stability. With gratitude.
It feels like a quiet win.The kind that doesn’t need applause to matter.
I don’t know exactly where this Substack is going...I just know that today, I’m grateful.
Grateful for the courage it took to move.Grateful for the resilience it took to stay.Grateful for the hope that somehow survived even the hardest parts.
And grateful that when I look at my kids, I can say:We did this. Together.
I think it’s finally safe to change my location now.
Xoxo

The Wandering Act is where I write about movement without certainty, faith in good without guarantees, and the quiet courage it takes to keep going before the path fully appears. It’s about trusting the journey even when the landing isn’t promised, and honoring the moment when you finally arrive.
Today, I’m letting myself arrive.
